Historic Environment Scotland (HES) and International Fashion Designer Jeff Garner from fashion label, Prophetik, hosted the first ever fashion show to take place in the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle. On the eve of the anniversary of Mary Queen of Scots’ execution, HES and Jeff Garner paid tribute to the original Royal fashion icon - Mary Queen of Scots.
Taking inspiration from the Scottish monarch, the catwalk highlights included dramatic accents of beautiful lace and tartan. Every look mirrored the style of Mary Queen of Scots with a contemporary touch. Industry influencers looked on as the ‘Women of the Crown’ collection made its way down the catwalk accompanied by the Cairn Quartet, conducted by Roy Wooten.
Jeff Garner was named one of 40 top artists in the US and his works were placed into the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery for the 40 under 40 Exhibition. Garner’s vivacity and his commitment to creating distinctive, sustainable, eco-friendly fashion reflects his environment.
He has also designed red carpet looks for the likes of Giselle Bundchen, Taylor Swift, Cameron Diaz, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Sheryl Crow.
The event also showcased Prophetik’s sustainable philosophy. The brand holds sustainability at its core and highlights the need for the consumer to be aware of the toxins in synthetic fabrications and the health implications.

In attendance was Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform, Roseanna Cunningham MSP who addressed the guests:

The collection incorporated the sustainable elements of utilising local manufactures and traditional crafts. This approach saw an array of Scottish suppliers and brands such as Kirkcaldy Linens, Lochcarron of Scotland, Knockando Woolmill, MYB Textiles, Maggie Mowbray Millinery, Ecclectic Shock Jewellery and T-Gold Eco shoes feature in the catwalk show. Historic Environment Scotland have also created a new range of products designed in conjunction with Prophetik, and inspired by Mary Queen of Scots, which are now available to purchase.

The ‘Women of the Crown’ collection now travels to London Fashion Week and will go on to tour internationally.
